IPODR - California County Profile Report

Kern County

Introduction
The annual birth cohort file consists of data on all live births for a given year plus information on whether they died within 12 months after birth. There is a reporting delay for the IPODR-CCPR for the most current year due to a three-year lag time before a given year's birth cohort file becomes available. One factor accounting for this delay is the need to include information about deaths that occurred for a given year's cohort in their first year of life and the need to obtain and compile out of state death certificates for cohort deaths that occurred within the U.S. outside of California.
A preliminary match of vital statistics birth, fetal death, and death files is also used to provide estimates of perinatal, and neonatal deaths.
The usual lag between the end of the year of the birth cohort and the compilation of the preliminary linked vital statistics birth, fetal death, and death file is about two years.
More information on the vital statistics birth, fetal death, and birth cohort files can be accessed by clicking here. More information on the vital statistics death files can be accessed by clicking here.
Thus, the California County Profile Reports (CCPR), based on the Improved Perinatal Outcome Data Reports (IPODR) data repository, is compiled in two versions. The first version is based on the most current available birth cohort file published by the California Department of Public Health, Center for Health Statistics. The second version is based on the most recent vital statistics birth and vital statistics death files published by the California Department of Public Health, Center for Health Statistics. Use the version you would like to view by clicking on the menu above.
